The second thing to consider is whether or not the lockout is an emergency.  If a child, pet or elder is locked inside of the vehicle in hot weather, it could be very serious.  Breaking a window may be your only option when you are without assistance.  You can break a side window (never strike the middle of the window, always strike the edges).  Call the police for assistance in emergency situations.
